The intent of this section is to articulate; "Given what we know today, what are the next steps we need to take".   This is tall order because no one wants to agree on "what we know today".  The entrenched want everyone to think everything is just ducky and nothing needs to change.   Some climetologists and environmentalists are behaving like chicken little.  Some people accuse H2Orbit of behaving like chicken little.

Immediate priority

H2Orbit believes the immediate priority is problem recognition.  That is to say that society as a whole does not really recognize the depth or magnitude of the problem, or how far reaching it may become.  Not to the degree that warrants action and changes; which is the problem and basis for the observation.

There are a number of things you can do to help increase awareness:

  • Simply ask people to read over this web site is a huge help.  We need as many people as possible, from all over the world look at this material.
  • Participate in one of the public discussion groups we, or others have created.
  • Download, print and handout as many of our 'sizzle cards' as you can.  Hand them to individuals, post them on local bulletin boards, leave them on counters or waiting rooms, put them in magazines, books, and newspapers.  Ask business owners if you can leave a stack with them to hand out to their customers.
  • Visit our boutique.  We have an array of merchandising items that can help spread awareness.  The profits from these sales goes to further the organization, it's programs and initiatives.  There are items there for individuals as well supporting leadership events, clubs and organizations.  Please support us.
  • Download one of our presentations and deliver it at a local club, organization, association, or school.

Consequently H2Orbit contends that awareness is the priority of the day.

One way to increase awareness is to simply send people to this web site.  It's easy and it costs no one, except the H2Orbit organization, anything.  And it's costing us more than we can afford.  If you would like to help defray some of that cost your donations are greatly appreciated.

Secondly people need to understand that these problems are not going to be solved overnight.  In fact they are going to take every bit of the 90 year timeline we see in order to solve them.  There is a great deal of work to be done both technically and socially in order to accomplish this.  Some of that work - especially at this stage - is political.

We can't take political action that will doom us to certain defeat, because the consequences for that are dire indeed.   So we ask that everyone have a little patience, engage your political leaders where and whenever possible and make these issues part of their campaigns.  If you have elections coming up - make them election issues so that all parties debate them in the open.

Common sense should tell anyone having the diligence to read through this website; that the organization and its leaders are not just sitting by the sidelines hoping the internet will solve all our problems.  This website is a tool, nothing more.  People are what matters and we seek to help educate and enlighten so that they may participate and guide day to day decisions and actions resulting in attainment of the goal: A healthy biosphere for Earth.  We hope that individuals too will view this as a tool to communicate with each other ( use the guestbook to register your interests and link your blog or web site ).  That way the actions you are taking can be linked in a more enduring manner to people here.  Communications is improved and sharing of information if facilitated as a result.

The situation, issues, and challenges need to be solved in the light of day where everyone can help and participate if we are ever to see resolution.

Other priorities

Revenue is a problem.  Energy is such a pervasive commodity in our economy it generates significant sums of revenue.  We're not talking just product revenues here.  Fuel taxes and energy taxes are one of the most heavily taxed commodities.  Government at all levels; national, state/province, county, city and local agencies all have some form of taxation on fuels and energy.

That's one reason we can't just turn off the tap.  All the services these revenues pay for have to be accommodated in other ways.  Finding that transition will require innovative thinking across the population.  Why? Because of the diversity of organizations, agencies, government that are imposing those taxes in the first place.  Some of them are pretty bureaucratic in nature and not easily influenced to do anything they don't have to.

We would like to pause here and remind everyone that we think we have a 90 to 100 year window in which to have the problem solved.  Not started - solved.

What we need is a phased implementation plan that has granular enough steps to show required shifts in a way that facilitates tactical planning and resolution.  We need a very complex project management initiative to help solve the problem by guiding the right know-how to be leveraged against the right issues.  Sound complicated?  It is.  However, I know there are technology companies that can easily handle the task.  There's another area for job growth.

H2Orbit believes we can do that.

Phase  1 - Planning

There are many issues to be considered and taken into account.  Each needs to be documented in the context of what must be accomplished.   Many efforts need to be in parallel with one another.  Some are terrestrial based, some in space and indeed some between the two.

Phase  2 - Implementing

Initial implementation might mean new agencies, capabilities, and social programs to help people both cope and learn what they can do.  Implementation in a very real sense means making sure we have the right resources and capabilities in place to carry out each phased step objectives.  The sooner we can start terrestrial programs to sequester CO2, as an example, the more time we might be able to leverage in getting the solution functional.  We need to be careful not to delude ourselves into thinking that we can keep dumping CO2 into the atmosphere only to have yet more machines suck it back out.  That doesn't solve the problem and only delays the inevitable.  We need to stay strategically focused and tactically oriented.

Phase  3 - 1st Power

1st power is a significant milestone.  We need to recognize though that none of our efforts can be done in an linear manner.  As we work to build that first SPS the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and beyond need to be following in short order.  We can eliminate five typical terrestrial power plants for every gigawatt class SPS we bring online.  Do the math.  The master time-line or project plan will quantify exactly how many SPSs come on-line, by when and how many terrestrial facilities can be shut down.  Those displaced terrestrial plants can be leveraged against other mechanical means to generate power.  Hydroelectric, ocean currents, thermal vents, etc.

1st power will be a significant opportunity for the world to celebrate and an anniversary to remember for all time.

Phase  4 - Replicate success

We need to take all of what we learned getting to 1st power and duplicated repeatedly until we have the solution resolved.  Replicating it will almost certainly mean new logistical plans, new capabilities and infrastructure support.

------------

Humanity can do this.

Albert Einstein once said: "In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity".  One dialect of Chinese uses two characters for "crisis" or "critical turning point".  The upper character represents "danger" and the lower character means "hidden opportunity".   An apt metaphor for what we need to solve, don't you agree?
